Sandra Stanton is a Senior Lecturer in the Dance and Movement Studies at Hamilton College. Hailing from the small town of Verona, NY, Sandra received her B.F.A. in Dance from The Juilliard School in NYC under the direction of Benjamin Harkarvy. Sandra is also an alumna of North Carolina School of the Arts. For several years, Sandra worked side-by-side with Twyla Tharp and Shelley Washington, while performing professionally as a principal dancer with Twyla Tharp's international touring company, THARP!. Sandra also worked in Montreal Canada with LA LA LA Human Steps and Edouard Lock in his creation Exauce. She has taught Tharp repertoire in colleges and universities throughout the US and abroad. Pre-professional studies include: The Bolshoi Ballet Academy in Vail, Co.; The School of the Chicago City Ballet with Maria Marjorie Tallchief and Homer Bryant; and the Chautauqua Dance Company. After studying several summers at the ABT studios in NYC with Raymond Lukens (NYU) and Franco DeVito (JKO School), Sandra became a nationally certified classical ballet instructor with American Ballet Theatre's National Teacher Training Curriculum, levels primary-advanced and partnering. A 25+ year yoga practitioner and teacher of Ashtanga, Hatha, and Vinyasa yoga, Sandra is a certified yoga instructor with Yoga Alliance. She is the co-founder of Yoga Fest, a recurring yoga festival hosted by Hamilton College for students, faculty, and community members. Sandra is a seasoned choreographer and has created over 25 original dance pieces over the past 12+ years at Hamilton College. Her choreography includes classical, contemporary, and modern dance works; and casting is inclusive of all students, ages, and experience levels. Along with her choreography, Sandra often collaborates with live musicians and other community members. An amateur artist and photographer, Sandra's original black-ink illustrations were published in the 2022 novel entitled, The Woolems of Averlune, Averlune Press. One of her black and white photographs was also chosen by author Matt Pelicano for the cover of his poetry book, Winter Bloom, 2022 Oakdale Publishing.
